Ok, so that is actually an air mattress propped up against the wall that he is climbing! It was left out after my parents stayed with us and I turned around to see him all the way at the top of the mattress! Oh, the things a toddler will to do to entertain himself. Of course, to him it was not an air mattress but a climbing wall and slide all-in-one! Lay it on the floor and it's a trampoline! How's that for cheap entertainment?!

What a great day we had at Family Day! Stephen gave us a tour of the facilities which are very impressive and we had a great lunch. We met lots of other families doing the same thing we are - little kids and mom or dad starting med school. It's wonderful to know we are there to support each other!
The White Coat Ceremony was very special. After a brief program, each student's name was read, they received their white coat, "signed in" to the College of the Medicine and then shook the Dean's hand. Stephen's parents joined us for the day and we were all very proud when he walked across the stage - Jeremiah even added a "Hi Daddy!"
And here they are...the Class of 2012!

Monday was a full day of meetings, tours and PBLs. Tuesday and Wednesday were PBLs in the morning and Stephen was home by lunch both days! I know I can't get used to that but it was great this week! Today will be more orientation and tomorrow is Family Day. We will meet Stephen's parents there for a family tour, luncheon and the White Coat Ceremony. I can't wait for that part - it will all feel so official then!
Like I said, this week has been great but we have been warned - the next ten weeks will be rough, including some classes and tests on Saturdays (yuck!). Nothing like getting thrown into the fire right away! But I know if there is anyone who can handle it, it would be Stephen. I think I remember him in college saying, "Stress? I eat stress for breakfast!" Doesn't that sound like him?

Jeremiah and I were having what we like to call "J and Mommy Bible time" before his nap today. It was the story of Moses and the Israelites and the parting of the Red Sea. I cannot imagine how scary that must have been to look at those two huge walls of water and think, "I'm supposed to walk through that?!"
The verse along with our Bible time today was Philippians 4:13 - "For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." We talked about times when God has asked Mommy and Daddy to do something that seems scary but, after being obedient, our faith has grown and we have been blessed through that "scary" time.
I don't know how much a two-year-old can understand about such things. But I know it was reassuring and reaffirming for me to read this story as we embark on our journey through medical school as God has called us to do. Especially with me staying home, times may get scary, financially, etc., but I can always go back to the verse God gave me when we first chose to follow His plan - Joshua 1:9. And we have our little Joshua to remind us of that every time we get scared along the way.

Stephen headed out bright and early for his first day of orientation at medical school. Jeremiah was, of course, up by 6:30 am to make sure he could say goodbye to Daddy. Stephen got to hear him say "Proud of you Daddy" before he left - we all feel that way!
This week is orientation and we are looking forward to the Family Day and White Coat Ceremony on Friday. Classes begin next week! The adventure has begun!
No one's going back to sleep this morning so I guess our day has officially begun...
