Big Boy Bed!

With two young children, it seems like we are always hitting new milestones. Jeremiah had survived several nights in his toddler bed (and only fell out twice that we know of) so he was ready for his "big boy bed" which arrived Friday night. Stephen put it together on Saturday - with Jeremiah's "help" - and Jeremiah picked out Thomas the Tank Engine sheets on Sunday.

We had small group on Sunday night so the boys had a babysitter. Apparently it was not a great idea to have her put him to bed in this new bed for the first time - whoops. After a little meltdown, he went to sleep in his toddler bed. When we got home, we moved him to the new bed and slept there until 8:40! It was truly a miracle! He has done just fine in the bed since then - except for nap time. We'll get that figured out too I'm sure - eventually.

Solid food!

Joshua began his adventures into solid food Monday night. I do not remember it going this well with Jeremiah the first time - maybe it was a first time parent thing :) Joshua kept grabbing for the spoon which Jeremiah thought was hilarious.

Yummy rice cereal!

Holidays

I get really into the holidays. I don't know why - maybe because I was an elementary school teacher.

I didn't think it would be fair to make you choose just one answer on this poll since I couldn't myself so vote for as many as you like. I could tell you reasons I love just about all of these holidays but I will limit myself to two.

My first vote would be for Christmas for the following reasons:

1. Jesus was born at Christmas. The greatest gift ever.

2. I love the story of Mary and Joseph. I remember being pregnant with Jeremiah and hearing this story again - it had totally new meaning to me.

3. Family - I LOVE getting together with family and we get to see pretty much everyone at Christmas. It is even more fun now with the kids. More about this when we get closer to Christmas.

4. The movies - "A Christmas Story" and "Elf" rank right up there.

5. The music - my favorites are "O Holy Night" and "Sleigh Ride."

6. The food - too many to list :)

I'll write more about Christmas as we get closer - I think that is enough for now.

My second vote would be for St. Patrick's Day because:

1. I am Irish and proud of it!

2. My mom always made a big deal about it when we were growing up and I loved that. Irish stew, green jello, green kool-aid - it was so fun!

3. Not very many people get really into St. Patrick's Day so it was fun to be the teacher (and now the mom) who goes all out for this holiday.

So what's your favorite?

Ok, seriously people...

What is the fun in having a poll if you don't explain the "why" to your answer?! I want to know WHY you like a certain day of the week so leave a comment!!! Thank you :)

I am still deciding on my favorite day so I will fill you in when a decision is reached...

I know you'll be holding your breath :)

Need a laugh?

At the request of a good friend, you can find a new section on the blog called "Jeremiah's Quotes." I am sure it will be added to frequently as he always has something interesting to say :)

More milestones

These boys are way too busy growing up! Jeremiah spent his first night in a "big boy bed" Saturday night. His crib is convertible so we made it into a toddler bed to get him used to it before his real bed comes. He did fall out once - and fell asleep with Elmo on the floor - but otherwise there were no problems!

Jeremiah is also realizing the power of prayer. Stephen had a headache on Wednesday night. Jeremiah looked at me and said, "Mommy pray Daddy's headache." We were both a little shocked, but I sat down with him and we prayed for Daddy's headache. He told us "God heals" (which they have been learning about in Sunday school). When we were done praying, he looked at Stephen and said, "Daddy headache all better!" It was a very proud moment :)

Joshua rolled from his tummy to his back for the first time yesterday - just seconds after I asked Stephen, "Should I be worried that he hasn't rolled over yet?" He is a very squirmy boy and manages to spin himself in almost a complete circle when he lays on the floor! Stay tuned for more movement updates! He also likes to sit in the Bumbo seat - I love that it makes him look even chubbier :)

Boy, these fingers are yummy!

Rain

I have been in heaven the past few days because I LOVE rainy weather. Most people get depressed with the cold, gloomy days but I love it. Maybe I should move to Seattle...they do have good coffee there too...

Anyways, my favorite thing to do is curl up under a blanket by the window and watch a movie or go to sleep. Since I have children to watch (and should only sleep when they are), I am voting for watching a movie. But any of these choices sound good to me - maybe even combining a few!

Tonight we are trying a new soup for supper. This weather just makes me crave soup. This one is called Italian Chicken Rice Soup - I'll let you know how it is. My obsession with cooking and baking continues to grow the longer I stay home, so new culinary adventures are a must. I'm just thankful my husband will try the new things I make (most of the time)!

So I say, bring on the rain - I've got my blanket and my soup and a big smile on my face.

Movie poll

I love movies. I wish I could afford to go to them more. But thanks to the library and the wonderful invention of Redbox, I feel like I am getting to see more lately without going even more broke.

It's hard for me to pick a favorite type of movie but I will go with sports movies, even though my favorite movies are not sports ones. I love sports movies because a) I love sports, b)they are often true stories, and c) they make me feel good. Some of my favorites are Miracle, Remember the Titans and Invincible (and I'm sure I'm forgetting more).

On that note, I do have to add that my two favorite movies are You've Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle. These are my all-time favorites that I could recite every line to and chose to watch when I'm feeling crummy.

What is your favorite movie? Any I just HAVE to see?

John Deere

Jeremiah is a little obsessed with John Deere right now. And that lucky boy actually got to ride on what he calls a "BIG tractor!" My aunt and uncle have a farm and my uncle graciously agreed to take Jeremiah on the tractor when we visited. I remember riding the tractor into the field with him when I was a little girl so it was fun to see my little boy do the same.

Jeremiah also rode the four wheeler with Grandpa and looked at the cows with Mommy. He likes to talk about Chuck the dog as well :)

After the farm, we went to my cousin's homecoming football game. It was a lot of fun (they won!) and Jeremiah still walks around the house saying, "Go Chester! Go Marcus!"

We "love" tennis!

Grandma and Grandpa Mc took Jeremiah to the kids' courts while we were visiting them to get an early start to his tennis career! Jeremiah liked to chase the balls and throw the ball at his own racquet. He even practiced his volleys :)

Look! An airplane!

Travel poll

Reading Cree's blog made me think about the privilege I have had to travel outside of the United States several times. I would love to hear about where you have traveled and whether or not you recommend traveling to those places! If you have not been out of the U.S., where would you like to go?

My trips have all been due to my involvement in music. After my senior year in high school, I went to seven European countries with the Midwest Ambassadors of Music. As a freshman in college, I went as a member of the marching band to Ireland for Dublin's St. Patrick's Day Parade. And a year after Stephen and I got married, we traveled as sponsors for a high school honor choir trip through several European countries. These were all amazing experiences and I feel very blessed to have seen so much of the world. By the way, Ireland, Switzerland and Austria were my favorites.

Where would I love to go next (in about 10 years or so)?! Australia :)
